BMA4005: Assessment 2 – PD Portfolio
Introduction
The report provides a reflective overview of my development personally, academically and professionally. It relates my abilities, experiences, qualifications, intentions and career aspirations including my values and personality traits. The report is developed in accordance with the 2030 Graduate Attributes of Bath Spa University. It also includes the interpretive insights from Myers-Briggs 16 Personalities questionnaire (Appendix 2). This has further helped to increase my attributes for self-awareness and career planning. Professional practice involves concerned with the expected behaviours, industry standards and competencies associated with a specific area of work. It analyses the critical elements of specific professional engagement to think and act with integrity. It further visualises ethical judgement, decision-making, interpersonal communication and lifelong engagement in practice. The positive attributes of responsibility, adaptability and relationship building are also important for developing educational and professional practice environments. Through reflecting on these areas, my intention is to present evidence of my preparedness for continuous career development. The analysis will be relevant for meaningful contribution to the human growth and welfare of community.
Skills
My technical skills include high proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, as I have used these tools in real consultant projects requiring precise output. I have used AutoCAD to produce technical drawings, redesign and make last minute revisions to complex plans (Appendix 1). I have shown competence with Microsoft Office and used it to produce structured reports, analyse data and create colourful presentations, relevant for decision-making processes. As per Farahmand, Rad and Keshmiri (2022), I have been competent in my technical delivery and analysed scope to grow. Through my experience I can identify advanced analysis skills and new technologies as areas to develop and offer more effective performance. In case of collaboration, I would consider this as strong base line skill for working effectively within project team structure to deliver the objectives. This helped to balance my personal responsibilities with project expectations. I have also identified that I need to develop my leadership and negotiation skills for fulfilment of any managerial responsibilities. I see my skills portfolio as representing strong foundations and clear opportunities for further strategic development. This is highly relevant and effective to plan for my future career ambition.
Experience
As a Technician at Initivo Consultancy Limited my experience shaped my familiarity of practice and own development (Appendix 1). I have been in the position for over three years, working on varied number of consultancy projects. I have used technical knowledge of Microsoft Office and Auto Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to assist with planning, documentation and design work. The opportunities develop ability for learning quickly, deal with pressure from managing workload and ensure quality of work with defined business impact (Kohn, 2024). I noted that my role as a Technician has supported in building my technical confidence. At the same time, it lacked the opportunity to share my expertise within a leadership and strategic decision-making capacity. The two aspects that are very important for development of my future career. Throughout my experience, I have also recognised importance of soft skills including communication and teamwork on projects. As per Akella et al. (20251), the attributes for the project success are dependent on collaboration with colleagues and clients, contributing to the project. I have developed resilience and negotiating skills from the challenges faced such as managing conflicting deadlines. It also included understanding the expectations of colleagues and clients.
Qualification
My qualifications reveal the combination of academic exposure as well as experience in continued professional development. The completion of Baccalaureate Diploma in Social Sciences from Liceul Teoretic “Emil Racovita” Vaslui provided me with the necessary skills (Appendix 1). This was associated with analytical thinking and inquiry into behaviour of people and society, which translates across the industries. The academic relevance is less than technical in the obvious sense. I have developed my capacity to view nature of problems from different perspectives. I am enrolled at Bath Spa University that represents implications of qualifications for achievement of the future career aspirations. The program promotes innovation, creative thinking and values-based learning that will provide me with graduate attributes, increasingly required in a competitive job market. Based on the views of Al-Ismail et al. (2023), the critical reflection identifies the qualifications to be compared to my profession. I have further focused on derivation of high-level qualifications and certifications for sustaining potentially hyper-specialised technical fields. My intent is to qualify for more professional development opportunities moving forward, which could result in formal associations with recognised industry certifications in design technologies and project management licenses. I have both effective baseline of qualifications and a total relevance of growth. This is relevant to explore the educational pathways as related to my professional aims. My qualifications promote learning along with guiding the journey towards a career.
Career Interests
My career goals focus on roles that incorporate technical ability, problem-solving and project association. I am interested in roles which incorporate Microsoft Office and Auto Computer Aided Design experience. The process further helps in developing creative solutions in consultancy and technical design projects. In recent times, I have focused on the key aspect of professional development and job satisfaction lies in being continually challenged, creative and making the impact. In reflecting on my experience, I have developed my technical and collaborative skillsets. In the long term, I have highlighted gaps requiring the need for development of my leadership, project management and decision-making capabilities. As per the views of Erdoğan et al. (2022), this are considered as the important aspects for my future values and career aspirations. I am interested in pathways that enable me for progressively develop towards the management and technical specialist level. My career interests are guided through the having meaningful contributions to organisations, promoting innovation and being able to establish a meaningful career pathway.
Values
Integrity, accountability and ongoing learning are the values that guides my professional and personal values defining my way of working and living. Ethical conduct and honesty are the strategical areas for trust. The process is relevant for technical and consultancy roles where fact-based answers and transparency through professional areas are essential. The evaluation about responsibility, explicitly, the ability to hold myself accountable for the contributions has been another important value. As per views of Windon, Stollar and Radhakrishna (2021), I value collaboration in which success can emerge from more than one perspective, working together and mutual respect. Relevance in mind, critical thinking about myself and my role in the team is highly relevant in the long run. At same time, I am hesitant visualised as the challenge while establishing practices to innovate and improve. Recognising this value is important for me for development of an assertive and confident approach for presenting my ideas. Adaptability and resilience further develop my values to change and problems differently moving ahead. My values were relevant for establishment of relevant way for working and provide a value system.
General Interests
My general interests cover a professional and personal spread and balance of intellectual engagement, creativity and culture. I have developed a strong passion for technology and design, highlighting the ways in which innovation is relevant. The attributes are further focused in the process such as artificial intelligence or digital modelling, having the capacity to shape while operating in consulting process (Kleinheksel et al., 2023). The process highlights relevant for engaging with changes and developments in industry. At the same time, it is focused on improving my own technical skill level. As per Grimble et al. (2023), Outside of career-oriented interests, I am engaged in personal development through reading, research and thinking on new ideas that can improve my perspective. Culture has been considered as the part of interest along with exploring a variety of traditions, arts and social places. This is highly relevant for deepening my values and enjoyment in the global attributes. I recognise that, while these interests are all valid and broad, I might devote too much energy to the professional interests with little focused on leisure or personal creative implementations. The perspective is further critical for guiding the balanced approached.
Myers-Briggs 16 Personalities test
Extraverted (57%)
As I am slightly more Extraverted than Introverted, I can feel energised through social interactions while valuing time alone (Appendix 2). In educational and professional spaces, my extraversion allows me to communicate confidently with others, create collaborative discussions and develop relationships with my colleagues. My current job role at Initivo Consultancy Limited has highlighted importance of collaboration. Many projects involve teamwork, as they can be accomplished through group efforts and conversations. It is useful for me to reflect critically, as I release that gathering consensus as a group, may cause slower decision-making process.
Intuitive (54%)
My score of 54% Intuitive shows that my preference is based on thinking about possibilities and future-focused perspectives rather than paying too much attention to practical details (Appendix 2). This is aligned with my degree pathway at Bath Spa University where creativity and innovation are strategic. In my job, intuition allows me to perceive improvements, anticipating other possible outcomes and developing long-term vision-building strategies. However, I further appreciate that being intuitive can cause me to overlook the practicalities. The analysis is feasible or undervalue how practical details matter when engaged in technical tasks such as Auto Computer-Aided Design.
Feeling (55%)
The Feeling preference demonstrates my tendency for making decisions that are empathetic, values-led in case of needs of other people (Appendix 2). I strategically favour goodwill in my collaborations, which has led to others trusting me while contributing positively within the group dynamics. This trait is particularly beneficial in case of the consultancy work where understanding the client’s perspective is able to provide technical solution. The analysis highlights the process while basing all decisions on feeling while leading to indecision and an inability to make objective decisions within the professional situations where logic is required.
Judging (56%)
My Judging score indicates that I prefer structure, organisation and planning (Appendix 2). I value clarity in what tasks I need to do, deadlines I have and what my goals are. The process helps me to develop and manage responsibilities in a way that works in case of my academic and professional life. For example, during my projects with Initivo Consultancy Limited, I like to draw up an accurate (clear) schedule so I can ensure tasks are delivered on time and high standard. I also understand that if I am too structured, it might lead to the loss of flexibility. This flexibility is important when working within the ever-changing context where I have to adapt. When reflecting critically on the trait, I see organisation as a strength, but I further need to continue to develop my open-mindedness along with agility.
Turbulent (56%)
The Turbulent identity analyses that I am self-reflective in relation to stress, I generally strive for better. I have further focused on the improvement of my performance (Appendix 2). This often creates a strong motivation for continued learning and professional development. I further want to be better based on my ambitions for exceeding the expectations. However, this might lead to over-thinking or feeling doubtful within myself. This might ultimately affect confidence in case of leading. I am working for management of stress better by engaging in mindfulness, having realistic expectations, while being open to constructive feedback.
Conclusion
As an ENFJ-T Protagonist, I naturally gravitate towards taking on roles that involve working collaboratively, being creative and making the difference. This particularly relates to my interest for moving from technical role to one with more responsibilities. In such case, I can manage positions that involve leading, project managing and interaction with the clients. Furthermore, I wanted to consider adding applicational skills in areas such as assertive communication, stress management and decision making that are evidence based. The personality traits to 2030 Bath Spa Attributes, I visualise opportunities to enhance resilience, adaptability and innovation.
